Dental Hygiene Instructor – Full Time
San Antonio Campus
$40-43/hr
The instructor’s primary responsibilities are to provide active and effective learning for students in all applicable educational settings, act as professional and academic role models and commit to student satisfaction. This includes teaching in classrooms, labs, and outside the classroom during campus and student activities. This position delivers high-quality instruction to students, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience, develops and implements curriculum, assesses student progress, and ensures adherence to industry standards and best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Organize and deliver class objectives in a clear, concise manner
- Foster and maintain an orderly, controlled, and safe environment for students in classrooms and labs
- Maintain and prepare training aids, tools, and equipment in the classroom and lab
- Maintain curriculum accuracy by keeping up to date on industry standards and practices
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and practical assessments
- Provide constructive feedback and support to students to help them achieve academic and professional success
- Identify and report on any at-risk students; creates individualized success plans to mitigate attrition
- Foster relationships with students to help them meet program competency requirements
- Provide periodic and ad-hoc reporting to stakeholders
- Meet with students and education personnel to discuss instructional programs and related issues
- Provide and maintain regular, substantive interaction with students in online course components
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress
- Deliver engaging lectures and lab sessions on assigned topics, diagnostic procedures, equipment operation and troubleshooting, etc.

Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED (required)
- Bachelor’s degree minimum needed
- RDH from Coda Accredited Program
- Four years minimum clinical experience needed
- Direct and specialized knowledge in the area of instruction (required)
- Expertise in the area of assignment that demonstrates the skills needed to provide instruction
- Design and deliver engaging educational content, adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles
- Build rapport with students, clinical partners, and colleagues, fostering a positive learning environment
- Flexibility to stay current with industry advancements and incorporate new knowledge into teaching practices
- Competence in evaluating student performance and providing constructive feedback
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective instruction and interaction with students and colleagues
- Commitment to ongoing learning and participation in professional growth opportunities
- Frequently (80% or more of workday)
- Use hearing and sight (both near and far vision)

- Use fine motor skills to operate personal computers, manual and electrical (dental, automotive, mechanical, nursing, etc.) equipment, as well as various diagnostic or procedure equipment
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with the assistance of mechanical interventions, students, or other employees

- Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
- On campus and on site work locations include exposure to student learning environments with a variety of conditions. Employees must be able to follow all safety precautions including the use of personal-protective equipment. Employees must also be able to adhere to site-specific safety procedures.

Dental Hygiene Instructor – Full Time
South College Dallas is seeking a Dental Hygiene full-time faculty member to join the team. Full-time faculty in the Dental Hygiene Program serve as a catalyst in the learning process in didactic and clinic settings. Responsible for presenting course content in an organized and motivating manner, guiding, mentoring, monitoring and evaluating student learning in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting to ensure entry-level competence into the Dental Hygiene Profession.
Responsibilities
- Teach a full-time load or equivalent through didactic and clinical instruction.
- Instruct in areas including, but not limited to, head and neck anatomy, general and oral pathology, radiology, dental materials, pharmacology, periodontology, pre-clinic and clinic lecture, and biochemistry and nutrition.
- Assist with coordination of clinical activities and schedules for clinic courses.
- Meet all scheduled classes and be fully prepared for each class meeting.
- Evaluate students’ work thoroughly and equitably.
- Keep informed of current educational trends, both in general and in one’s specific field.
- Understand the student group being served and work toward improving students’ skills.
- Actively engage in the South College assessment of student learning initiatives and complete assigned assessment activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings including calibration, curriculum development, and review, as well as staffing for students of concern.
- Keep accurate records, maintain course syllabi, and post grades according to South College schedules.
- Assist with new student orientation.
- Serve as an Academic Advisor for Dental Hygiene students.
- Report to appropriate personnel problems involving students needing special academic or personal assistance.
- Schedule, post, and meet five (5) to ten (10) office hours each week.
- Attend all meetings and training appropriate to the assigned position.
- Actively serve on additional South College committees as appropriate and necessary.
- Adhere to the South College philosophy and the policies/procedures of the College.
- Accept assignments in evening programs, occupational programs, and student-life activities when appropriate.
- Participate in the annual Commencement exercises.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of Dental Education
This job requires any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and/or experience as indicated below:
Education
- Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited college or university
- Bachelor’s Degree In Dental Hygiene or related field
While not required, the following is also preferred:
- Master’s or second degree(s) in Dental Hygiene or a related Health Care
Certification/Licensure
- Dental Hygiene License – State of Texas or the ability to obtain a Texas License
- Current CPR Certification
- Administration of Local Anesthesia Certification
- Nitrous Oxide Certification
- 3 to 5 years of teaching experience
